  • The City of Westfield does not require a fence permit; however, the following zoning standards apply:
  • Front yard fences (between the house and the street) cannot exceed 42 inches in height
  • Side and rear yard fences cannot exceed 6 feet in height
  • If a side or rear fence exceeds 6 feet, a variance is required
  • To apply for a variance, call (317) 804-3170 and ask for a planner.
  • Additional Westfield considerations:
  • Corner lots are considered to have two front yards
  • The Community Development Department can provide a plot plan (call (317) 804-3170 or email Builders)
  • If the fence encroaches on a Drainage and Utility Easement (D&UE), permission may be required from Westfield Public Works at (317) 804-3171
